The Summer of 2017 was a time where West Bromwich Albion were looking to push on up the table and consolidate their position as a Premier League mainstay.

Arriving at The Hawthorns for £12million that summer was Southampton stoker Jay Rodriguez, who joined the club after recovering from a terrible knee injury - signing a four-year deal.

Initial reaction to the deal was all positive as the Baggies looked to improve on their 10th placed finish and push for the Europa League.

Rodriguez notched two goals in his first four games, but then seven matches passed before his next goal, in a defeat to eventual champions Manchester City,

In 42 appearances, the striker scored 11 goals but could not keep the Baggies in the Premier League as they were relegated to the Championship.

During the summer, top-flight Burnley were interested in the striker, who was once a former player at Turf Moor - with the forward putting in a transfer request to get his move back to the elite division.

A move did not materialise, and the striker’s future was in doubt at West Brom.

With that episode over with, Rodriguez started the season for the Baggies and has played in every Championship fixture so far, scoring four goals already.

One of the first names on the team sheet, and finding form, the striker is proving his worth in this division after an 11 goal haul in the top-flight despite being relegated.

Baggies’ fans wanted to see the Jay Rod that once adorned a Saints top before his injury, and this could be the season where they indeed get their wish.
