Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish was attacked by a spectator who ran on to the pitch in the Second City derby at St Andrew's on Sunday.

The man then blew kisses towards the crowd as he was led away by stewards, but will appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court charged with encroachment on to the pitch and assault.

"An attack on a player is completely unacceptable and outrageous," said the match commander, Superintendent Nick Rowe.

Villa captain Grealish sat on the St Andrew's turf before being helped up by players from both teams and was able to continue, ironically Villa went on to win 1-0 with Grealish scoring the winner in the 67th minute.

So what did you make of the attack on Grealish?

“Shocking.

“I’ve never seen anything like it.

“You have to question the stewarding, how the lad was able to approach Grealish without warning.

“There’s going to be huge repercussions.”

"This would have been a real eye-opener.

"Under no circumstances should a fan be entering the field of play, let alone committing an assault on a player on the pitch.

"Grealish silenced the man in question in the perfect way possible though, and the Villa man will be delighted to score the winner.

"Karma at its finest."

Jay Taylor

“Deplorable.

“There is no place for that on a football pitch and rightfully gets banned for life.

“It just brings the name of English football back into disrepute once more.

“Shameful, regrettable scenes.”
