It would seem that Derby County have a new Scottish hero. After the departure of the widely loved Craig Bryson, it was certainly needed. Graeme Shinnie seems to have fulfilled this vacant role already after just one appearance for the club.

The midfielder couldn’t have made a better impression on the Rams supporters at Pride Park in their 2-0 win over Luton Town.

After 89 minutes, it was announced that Shinnie had been voted the man of the match which was met by overwhelming cheers at Pride Park. The 28-year-old oozed confidence and read the game terrifically. Every interception and every flying slide tackle were met by huge cheers as the former Aberdeen captain quickly established himself as a fan favourite.

The Scotsman was, by no means, manager Philip Cocu’s first choice, having to wait 10 league matches before making his first appearance on the 11th. An injury to Tom Huddlestone paved the way for Shinnie to come into the first team after a few under-23 starts; he has certainly taken his opportunity.

That being said, two Derby players were included in the WhoScored.com Championship Team of the Week… Neither of which were Shinnie.

Instead, rewards were handed to Scott Malone and Tom Lawrence, who scored the second of Derby’s goals to all but confirm the three points.

The news was shared and celebrated from the Derby Twitter account.

However, Derby fans reacted in disbelief that their man of the match wasn’t included in the team.
