According to Sky Sports, Hull have offered Mo Diame a new three year contract in a desperate attempt to ward off interest from Newcastle United.
Newly promoted Hull City have had a summer to forget after winning the play-off final in May.
They have lost their long-serving manager – Steve Bruce – and have also suffered a number of injuries to crucial players, such as Moses Odubajo and Michael Dawson.
To worsen things for the Tigers, they have not yet made any signings nor appointed a new manager. This would be absolutely compounded by losing their star player to Newcastle.
It was reported yesterday that Newcastle had triggered Diame’s £4.5m release clause and were keen on bringing the Senegal international to St. James’ Park to bolster their midfield ranks.
The energetic box-to-box central midfielder made a name for himself in England with stints at Wigan and West Ham before joining Hull in 2014.
He thrived in the Championship last season and would be a fantastic addition for the Magpies but Hull will be desperate to keep their key man.
Newcastle fans – what do you think? Do you believe you’ll sign Diame? How much of a signal of intent will that be?
