It’s not often you see a player from the Sky Bet Championship in the company of names like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski – but that’s certainly the case for Queens Park Rangers midfielder Massimo Luongo.
The Australian midfielder, who won the Asian Cup with his country, joined the Chris Ramsey’s side from Swindon Town earlier on this summer, joining with fellow midfield man Ben Gladwin for a combined fee of £3.5 million.
Though he reached the League One Play-off final with Swindon last year, Luongo has done much in his short career so far – albeit not a great deal that would get him nominated for the biggest player award in the world – but that seems to have been the case.
The 23-year-old, who has appeared ten times for QPR so far this season, although has yet to find the back of the net, is on the 59 man shortlist to win the esteemed prize along with world beaters such as Messi and Ronaldo.
This is one hell of an achievement for a man who was playing third tier football only a few months ago, and shows the progress of his career over the last year.
