Sheffield Wednesday striker Steven Fletcher has praised the performance of Jordan Rhodes after the 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday afternoon.
Free scoring Brentford approached Saturday’s game at Hillsborough having beaten Luton Town 7-0 at the weekend, and the visitors looked likely to take another three points when Bryan Mbeumo struck after 29 minutes.
However, Wednesday battled back as Fletcher netted an impressive brace with one goal coming the penalty spot just after the hour mark, and then one from open play just four minutes later to turn the game on its head.
The win for the Owls means that they move into the play-off places in sixth place and following the win, Fletcher has opted to praise strike partner Jordan Rhodes.
Rhodes was a half-time replacement for Atdhe Nuhiu, and Fletcher has heaped praise on his second half performance.
Fletcher told The Star: “[Jordan] Rhodes made some great runs behind, created space for me in the hole so that was good.
“He did very well, just what the manager asked him to do which was get in behind them.
“He has been out of the picture for a long time. I don’t know when was the last time he played. That’s credit to him. He is a real player and he has shown that today.”
Prior to Saturday’s game, Rhodes had made just six appearances for Wednesday, having featured four times in the league and twice in the League Cup.
The former Blackburn Rovers man is yet to find the back of the net but the club will be hoping that he can now push on after a good 45-minute showing.
Wednesday now move on to face Derby County and Nottingham Forest in their next two league games.

If Rhodes can push on following this display then Wednesday will have a very forward line for their promotion push.
Fletcher’s words are wish from the Scotsman, who has done his team-mate massive favours in terms of boosting his morale.
It could have been easy for Fletcher to revel in his own glory after a brace, but the praise heaped on Rhodes is an intelligent decision.
