After a positive end to the season, Sheffield Wednesday will approach the new season with a lot of optimism as they look to push for promotion again.

Successive top six finishes meant the Owls went into the previous campaign with confidence but a ridiculous injury list seriously halted their progress.

Jos Luhukay was named as the new Wednesday boss in January and whilst he struggled initially, the team looked good towards the last six weeks of the campaign.

Yet, it's clear that they need those injured players fully fit for next season, as well as a few more shrewd additions if they are to compete with the best.

Here we look at a potential new Wednesday spine that could fight it out in the top six...

Luhukay faces a real tough decision when it comes to his goalkeepers next season with senior man Kieren Westwood likely to be back and available and youngsters Joe Wildsmith and Cameron Dawson eager for another chance.

Given Westwood's age, salary and the fact they have two capable replacements, he may be moved on.

And, after finishing the season well, Dawson could start with the number one shirt in August.

The former Leeds defender has proven himself to be one of the better centre-backs in the Championship.

He is dominant, aggressive and a real leader. Lees should be a key man next season.

Bannan has real quality on the ball for the Owls in midfield and is vital in feeding Fernando Forestieri and the other forwards in the team.

He should be the one to set the tempo and control the games for the side. The Scotland international has the ability and needs to step up next season.

Even though they have a range of options up top, Peterborough's Marriott would be a great addition.

He is a natural finisher and plays on the shoulder, meaning he should get plenty of chances with the likes of Bannan and Forestieri feeding him.

Wednesday's top scorer last year got 11, that needs improving next season and Marriott could be the man.
