Sheffield Wednesday enter the new campaign on the back of what has been an extremely quiet transfer window, with just loan man Jordan Rhodes signing on a permanent deal, and George Boyd linking up with the club on a free transfer from Burnley.

Boss Carlos Carvalhal has one of the strongest squads on paper, and will know that his side are just several quality additions away from launching a serious bid for the automatic promotion places.

The squad is close to completion, but the Portuguese manager may feel he needs one final defensive reinforcement, and should consider a swoop for Newcastle’s Massadio Haidara.

The player has been told to find a new club, and having recovered from a long term injury, is now ready to get his career back on track.

The Frenchman looked impressive before his injury setback, and Newcastle’s loss could certainly be the Owls gain.

Haidara recently turned down a move to St Etienne due to excessive wage demands, but should reconsider his expectations if he wishes to continue his journey in English football.

Sheffield Wednesday will certainly be in the top six yet again next year, and Haidara may certainly realise his Premier League dream can be achieved in South Yorkshire.

With Newcastle keen to sell, Haidara should be available for a relatively marginal fee, and could be the final signing Carvalhal must make as he prepares his promotion assault.

The 24-year-old is very talented and would make an excellent addition to Wednesday’s title push, and Carvalhal should consider a move for the player.
