Jordan Rhodes has admitted that he's playing for his future with Sheffield Wednesday.

The striker arrived at Hillsborough in February 2017 after helping Middlesbrough to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Since then things haven't exactly gone to plan.

Rhodes has scored just 14 goals in 82 appearances for the Owls and has never reached more than seven goals in a campaign since moving to South Yorkshire.

Having made just six league appearances so far this term Rhodes faces a big challenge to prove himself to new manager Tony Pulis who will take charge of his first game for the club this weekend.

But with that test ahead of him, the striker is keen to put a frustrating few years behind him.

As quoted by Yorkshire Live, Rhodes said: "It has been incredibly frustrating.

"It has probably been the hardest period of my career.

"I am working as hard as I can to be the best person and player that I can. Hopefully I have got a few years in left.

He added: "As a footballer you want to play 90 minutes week in, week out, so not being able to do that was frustrating.

"Footballers are desperate to play every minute.

Asked if he can get back to his best, Rhodes said: "I would like to to think that. If I didn’t think I could do that, I would retire tomorrow.

"I know if I am given a chance I can be that 20-goal a season striker.

"I will try and do as best as I can.

"The only way I am going to get another contract with Sheffield Wednesday is doing the business and scoring goals."

The Verdict

This is a big opportunity for Jordan Rhodes.

After admitting that the last few years has been hugely frustrating, the striker now has the chance to wipe the slate clean and prove himself as the Owls' most reliable attacker.

Tony Pulis will look to utilise the experience at the club and if he can get Rhodes onside then we could be about to see the re-emergence of one of the Championship's most potent attackers.
