Sheffield Wednesday have one of the richest histories in English football and fans should not be deceived by their status as a second tier club.

The Owls have won various national titles in their time, including four First Division titles, although not since the 1930’s.

Wednesday also have three FA Cup titles to their name, but again, not since the 1930’s.

Since then, it hasn’t been great for Wednesday, who have struggled to assert themselves in England’s biggest cup competition.

Despite that, they have had some prestigious runs over the years.

The last FA Cup triumph for Wednesday came in 1935, where they overcame West Brom in front of 93,204 spectators at Wembley.

By the time Wednesday next won a trophy, the League Cup in 1991, just a few of Wednesday’s FA Cup heroes were alive.

Only black and white images remain of Wednesday’s 1906/07 winning squad, which are on display in Sheffield’s libraries as ‘Heroes of Sheffield’.

Owls were called ‘The Wednesday’ and beat Everton 2-1 at Crystal Palace’s ground in London on 20 April 1907.

It remains one of the club's finest achievements.

Wednesday had a terrific run to the final in 1992/93, where they unfortunately lost to Arsenal on a replay after extra time.

Chris Waddle scored for Wednesday on the day, but Andrew Linighan’s late strike in extra time stole it for the Gunners.
