Sheffield Wednesday have moved to announce that Jacob Murphy will complete the 2019/20 season at Hillsborough, alongside fellow loanees, Josh Windass, Connor Wickham and Alessio Da Cruz.

Garry Monk has been sweating on getting this quartet of deals over the line, with all four players seeing their original loan agreements expire later today.

However, they will remain at Hillsborough for the remainder of the season, with Wednesday confirming on their official website that agreements have been made with Newcastle United, Wigan Athletic, Crystal Palace and Parma, which allow the four players to complete the remaining seven games.

The 7 question Sheffield Wednesday quiz – Can you get all 7 correct?

Murphy has been with Wednesday throughout the season and has featured regularly for Monk since his arrival at the club. In the past two games, the Newcastle loanee has been utilised as a wing-back and notched an assist in Sunday’s win over Bristol City.

Whilst Windass is currently sidelined through injury, fellow forward Wickham has come out of lockdown in fine form, bagging two goals in two games.

Da Cruz stepped off the bench in the win over Bristol City and draw with Nottingham Forest.

Monk’s side are next in action tomorrow evening as they welcome automatic promotion hopefuls, West Brom, to Hillsborough.

The Verdict

This is great news for Garry Monk.

He’s seen a host of first-team players depart as June 30th approaches and has been forced to field a slightly unique line-up in the first two games back.

At the centre of those line-ups has been Murphy and Wickham, whilst Da Cruz has impressed from the bench. So, it has to be said that retaining them is a smart move.

Windass is still to come back and his deal being extended indicates that date might not be too far away.
