Sheffield Wednesday are going through a squad streamlining this summer, but here's why the Owls should try and keep Jordan Rhodes at Hillsborough.

The issue remains at Sheffield Wednesday that they simply have too many forwards on their books.

With an incredible eight strikers on their books, Luhukay faces a real conundrum of who to keep at Hillsborough and who to move on.

Rhodes has recently been linked with a season long loan move to Carrow Road, to play under Daniel Farke.

However, when it comes to Championship goal scoring, Rhodes has the most proven track record.

This is why rather than looking to sell, or loan out, the frontman, Wednesday should put faith in the forward and start him regularly.

The £5.4m-rated striker scored over 20 Championship goals in three consecutive seasons for Blackburn Rovers, showing his incredible goal scoring prowess. This is a record not matched by any of his competition for a starting spot at Hillsborough.

Rhodes is lethal in one-on-one situations, and with the ball in the box he can always be backed to turn and produce a fierce shot.

The Scotsman is an out-and-out goal scorer. Whilst he might not bringing some assets to the game like a target man such as Kosovan Atdhe Nuhiu, his lethal goal scoring touch should be enough to guarantee him a starting spot at Wednesday.

Steven Fletcher looks past the peak of his powers and produced just two Championship goals last season, at 31, he is the kind of player who Sheffield Wednesday should perhaps be looking to sell.

Gary Hooper is another player 30 or over who could be sold, despite a solid return of eleven goals in all competitions last season.

Sam Winnall is a ruthless League One goal scorer, but can't seem to quite make the step up to being a certified Championship player.

Overall, it would be a senseless decision to sell Rhodes, in particular to a Championship rival such as Norwich City, who he would strengthen.

Luhukay should ensure Rhodes stays, and give him the belief that he is the main man for the Owls.
