Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan Athletic remain locked in talks over the future of Josh Windass, with the Owls looking to bring the forward back to Hillsborough on a permanent deal.

It has previously been reported that there’s been a Sheffield Wednesday bid accepted by Wigan for the forward, but as we approach the end of August, there’s been no progress on a transfer.

An update has come from Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (25/08, 20:50), confirming that talks remain ongoing between the two EFL clubs as they look to thrash out a deal to take Windass to Hillsborough.

Quiz: Can you name where each of these 14 ex-Sheffield Wednesday players are playing now?

The former Accrington and Rangers man returned to Yorkshire in January on loan, but injuries impacted Windass’ involvement under Garry Monk.

Nevertheless, the 26-year-old did manage three goals in nine appearances, including a goal on debut in a 1-1 draw with Barnsley.

A consolation goal was scored in a 3-1 defeat to Derby County, whilst Windass also bagged in a resounding win over Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday’s trip to West London.

The Verdict

Windass clearly doesn’t have a future with Wigan and you’d expect him to be part of the fire sale at the DW Stadium.

However, the terms between Wednesday and Wigan have to be right, then there has to be an agreement with the player.

Monk clearly rated Windass and you can fully understand why.

He was in decent form during the nine appearances he made and with a season at full fitness behind him, he could really thrive.
