Sheffield Wednesday weighing up deal for player from struggling side

Sheffield Wednesday are looking to add more depth to their impressive goalkeeping ranks.

The Owls have been disappointing this season with the pre-season aim of promotion transforming into a fight to avoid relegation.

Their poor form continued as they conceded a 90th minute equaliser at home against fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers.

One area of consistency in the team has been in the goalkeeping position with Joe Wildsmith and Cameron Dawson performing well in the absence of Kieren Westwood due to injury.

According to the official Matlock Town site, Wednesday are looking to add to that with 18-year-old Jordan Pierrepont set for a trial with the development team.

He has been vital in helping their reserves to fifth place in the table

The Verdict

This is one of the strongest areas of the team due to the depth in that position, so it appears unlikely that he will come close to the first-team any time soon if he has a successful trial.

However, Wildsmith and Dawson are testament to the impressive goalkeeping coaching at the club, so it could be an excellent place for him to develop with the potential for first-team football in the long-term. Regardless, this would be a significant step up for the player and is a great opportunity for him.
