Sky Bet Championship club Sheffield Wednesday are weighing up an ambitious move for Chelsea forward Patrick Bamford, with the South Yorkshire club keen to take the youngster on loan, according to the Sheffield Star.
The ex-Nottingham Forest youth team player had been on loan at Crystal Palace during the first half of the campaign, but earlier this week announced his decision to leave the Premier League outfit due to a lack of first-team appearances.
It is thought that the player would prefer to stay in the top flight but a club challenging at the right end of the Championship could also appeal to Bamford also, with Wednesday matching that criteria.
Bamford was impressive for Middlesbrough in the second tier last season and netted 19 goals as the club reached the Sky Bet Championship Play Off Final.
Several clubs are likely to have been alerted to the player’s availability and Wednesday are just one of several clubs in the hunt for a new striking option in the new year.
Wednesday currently sit just outside the play-off zone in the Sky Bet Championship, after an impressive 1-0 victory against Fulham on Saturday, courtesy of a wonder goal from winger Ross Wallace.
