The Steel City derby takes place later this evening in what is set to be a cracker between Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United.
Both sides go into this game in decent nick with the Owls aiming for the top six and the Blades looking at those automatic spots.
1. Steve Bruce has said the Owls are dreaming of the top six – are the fans?
Dreaming is the perfect word, of course we are dreaming, but it’s unrealistic. There are currently about seven sides between ourselves and sixth spot, plus, we have one of the worst goal differences out of the bunch fighting for the playoffs, which doesn’t help. We would have to win about 80% of our remaining games which is a tough ask, but on current form, who knows.
2. Would it be fair to say more is riding on this derby more than recent editions – given both have a shot at at least the top six?
Not really, on the Steel City derby occasion, I think that form, league position and everything else goes out of the window. It’s all about bragging rights. Obviously, both sides want to win but for this week only the result will be more important than either side’s league position.
3. Sheffield United have been strong this season, but where can the Owls beat them?
Wednesday are currently one of the best sides in the division on form having only lost one league outing in twelve. If we have the desire, are first to all the second balls and with a little bit of luck that every side needs, there is no reason why we can’t win this tie.
4. What key battles should we look out for at Hillsborough this evening?
I think defence is key in a game like this. A moment of brilliance or a crazy mistake can sway the game. So to answer your question, Hector needs to keep Sharp quiet, that should be an interesting tussle. On the other hand, Fletcher is on fire for the Owls at present so I expect Egan to have his hands full throughout the ninety.
5. Score prediction
This is a very tough fixture to call, however, we are playing with a lot more confidence under Bruce at present. Additionally, the new loan signings have been a breath of fresh air and have given the squad a new lease of life. I’m confident we can nick this one, 2-1 to Wednesday.
