Sky Bet Championship side Sheffield Wednesday tried to sign former Manchester United and AS Monaco star Dimitar Berbatov, according to the Sun.
The Bulgaria international made over 100 appearances for the Red Devils scoring 48 goals, and has 275 career goals – he was released by AS Monaco at the end of last season after two years at the French club.
Premier League side Aston Villa made various attempts to sign him over the summer, but his wages were too high.
It comes as a shock, considering plenty of clubs turned down the chance to sign him considering his hefty wages – he ended up signing for Greek side PAOK.
They now want to sign Sunderland striker Danny Graham on loan and are prepared to cover his entire wages to convince the Black Cats to send him their way. They also failed in an attempt to sign Gary Hooper on deadline day.
The Owls currently sit in 14th place in the Sky Bet Championship after a mixed start to the season, they have so far amassed nine points from eight league games.
