Sheffield Wednesday have not given up hope of securing a potential move for former Everton midfielder Dennis Adenrian despite rival interest having emerged from the Championship, per The Sheffield Star.

It has previously been reported by the Sheffield Star that the Owls are keen on making a move for the 22-year-old this summer. That comes following his impressive performance during his loan spell with Wycombe Wanderers in the Championship last term where he made 21 appearances.

However, that report added that Darren Moore’s side are set to face an uphill battle to make a move for Adeniran happen this summer because he is also interesting other clubs in both the Championship and League One.

The latest update from the Sheffield Star though reveals that Moore’s side remain very much interested in the 22-year-old as they target midfield additions to their squad.

It is thought that despite the rivalled interest from elsewhere the Owls are retaining hope that they can secure a move for the 22-year-old against the odds.

The verdict

This could potentially be an excellent signing for Sheffield Wednesday to make this summer, and if they can pull off a move for Adeniran despite interest from elsewhere then it would be a real coup for Moore’s side.

Given their financial situation it is harder than ever for the Owls to compete with sides in the Championship for players like the 22-year-old though.

Moore might be a huge factor for the Owls given that he has a strong reputation for developing and improving quality young players. Adeniran might jump at the chance to work under him at a club the size of Sheffield Wednesday and it might be that they can yet persuade him to make the move even if he does get offers from elsewhere.

However, you would not be surprised if he did end up finding himself a Championship side this summer. If that happens then it would be a real blow for the Owls because Adeniran is exactly the right profile of player that they should be looking at signing this summer.
