Sheffield Wednesday’s hopes of staying in the Sky Bet Championship continue to hang by a thread as the Owls appear resigned to an almost relegation to League One after what has been a disastrous campaign at Hillsborough.
Darren Moore has unfortunately been unable to halt the slide in Yorkshire and as a result they could well see their fait sealed within a matter of weeks as they desperately attempt to make up a gap of seven points.
With only six games remaining of the season, plans will already be underway ahead of a probable assault on promotion from the third tier with there sure to be a fair amount of incomings and outgoings during the transfer window.
Are these 17 facts about Sheffield Wednesday’s club badge true or false?
Here, we round up all of the latest transfer gossip that has been swirling around the club over the past few days as Wednesday prepare for another busy summer of activity.
As reported by Gloucestershire Live, Wednesday are said to be interested in making a move for Cheltenham Town defender Will Boyle, with the club said to have been keeping a keen eye on the former Huddersfield Town man.
The Yorkshireman is however set to miss the rest of the season through injury, however that is unlikely to dampen the Owls’ interest, with scouts from Hillsborough having watched the centre back on numerous occasions this term.
Boyle has chipped in with an impressive seven goals this term from the left position of a back three for the promotion chasing Robins and would be an interesting addition for Wednesday.
Born in Garforth, Boyle will soon be available on a free transfer, with his current deal expiring in June of this year.
As stated by a Football League World source, promotion hopefuls Brentford could well be set to relaunch their attempts to bring Barry Bannan to the club this summer.
The Bees have had a long-standing interest in signing the Wednesday midfield schemer and it is believed that the club could make a move for the player if they fail to achieve promotion and the Owls suffer their expected relegation.
Bannan did indeed sign a new contract recently which ties him to Hillsborough until 2023, however a fall down the leagues to the third tier could well see his head be turned by interest from elsewhere.
The 31-year-old has been almost ever present for side this term, making 43 appearances across all competitions.
There is still a chance that young defender Osaze Urhoghide will remain at the club past the end of the current campaign, with Examiner Live reporter Dom Howson providing an update on the player’s future recently.
The highly rated 20-year-old former AFC Wimbledon academy product has been the subject of interest from Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Watford in the past and could well be set for an exit this coming summer.
However Howson has now moved in to give fans of the Owls some hope that the player may stay put by stating the following recently:
“As for Urhoghide, there is a chance he will stay. I know the club haven’t given up hope of tying him down to a new deal.”
A versatile defender who can play in numerous positions across the backline, Urhoghide has played 19 first team games for Wednesday and has a contract with the club which expires in June of this year.
