The Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri has pledged to spend £1m on a brand new pitch, reports The Star.
In recent months, the playing surface at Hillsborough has been heavily criticised and even Owls boss Stuart Gray claimed the pitch played a part in the injuries to Liam Palmer and Will Keane in the fixture against Fulham.
The Owls have won just four times in 20 home matches this season.
Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri has promised to spend £1m on a brand new pitch and work is due to begin after the final home match against Leeds United on April 25.
Striker Caolan Lavery told The Star the investment will pay dividends.
“The pitch is not easy to play on,” said Lavery. “It doesn’t look that bad sitting in the stands but, when you are out there, it is difficult.
“You get bobbles when you least expect it so a new pitch will hopefully make a big difference with the way Stuart [Gray] likes and wants us to play.
“It has been nearly impossible for us to get the ball down so a new surface will help us in the long run pass the ball the way we like to.”
Charlton Athletic are the visitors to Hillsborough this weekend as Wednesday look to put the 2-0 defeat to Norwich City last Saturday behind them.
Stuart Gray’s Sheffield Wednesday side currently sit in 12th spot in the Sky Bet Championship, having accumulated 54 points from 41 league games.
