Sheffield Wednesday parted company with Garry Monk earlier in the week, with Dejphon Chansiri now looking for a fresh coaching set-up to move the club forwards.

Monk had been in the Wednesday job little over a year, but his tenure has come to an end after a tough calendar year on and off the field.

A statement from Chansiri confirmed that Monk and his coaching staff had been given their marching orders, with Ryan Needs, Andrew Hughes, James Beattie and Darryl Flahavan seemingly following Monk out of the club.

However, a report from The Athletic has claimed that long-serving coach, Neil Thompson, will remain at Hillsborough, as will Tony Strudwick, who works as the Head of Sports Science.

Chansiri is yet to make any further comment on who will replace Monk at Hillsborough, with the chairman seemingly taking his time over the November international break.

Wednesday, who sit 23rd in the Championship table now, are not back in action until November 21st, when they take on Preston North End at Deepdale.

The Verdict

Monk’s coaching staff was always likely to follow him out of the door, it’s what happens at every club.

Some will stay, though, which is the case with Thompson and Strudwick.

They will help the transition of the new manager when he’s eventually appointed and, likely, give the playing squad that little bit of consistency.
