Jack Marriott may not play for Sheffield Wednesday again, according to Yorkshire Live's Dom Howson.

The striker has endured a mixed period since moving to the Owls on loan over the summer after falling out of favour with parent club Derby County.

The Rams are entering a new era with a takeover on the cards and a new manager on the cusp of being announced.

That means that Marriott is at something of a crossroads.

The 26-year-old is currently out of action for Tony Pulis's side with a calf injury and that could spell the end of his time at Hillsborough with the new Rams boss likely to want to cast an eye over his squad.

Writing for Yorkshire Live, Howson said: "Marriott is back at Derby receiving treatment for the calf injury he sustained in training at Wednesday.

"He's not going to be fit until January at the earliest.

"Derby have a recall clause as part of the loan deal so we might not necessarily see Marriott in a Wednesday shirt again.

"Wayne Rooney says it is a clean slate for all of Derby's players, including Marriott."

The Verdict

It wouldn't be a surprise to see Jack Marriott return to Derby County.

With a recall option in his loan deal, it seems that Sheffield Wednesday are powerless to keep him even if they wanted to.

While featuring regularly for the Owls since joining the club the striker has struggled to find the net consistently and so that could see his time at Hillsborough coming to an end.
