Championship club Sheffield Wednesday have taken Dutchman Demy De Zeeuw on trial, according to Dutch football website V-Bal.

HITC Sport are reporting that the Dutch news outlet are claiming that De Zeeuw will be training with the South Yorkshire club in an attempt to earn a contract at Hillsborough.

The player is a free agent following the expiry of his contract at Dutch side NEC Breda which ran out at the end of last month.

The 32-year-old central midfielder has 27 caps for the Netherlands to his name, with the last one coming in the 2010 World Cup semi-final against Uruguay.

De Zeeum boasts an impressive CV in the world of football and has been a performer for Ajax, Anderlecht, Spartak Moscow and AZ Alkmaar.

Wednesday are in the process of searching for new recruits following the appointment of Portuguese manager Carlos Carvalhal as the new head coach.

The club's hierarchy have targeted a push at promotion to the Premier League next season.
