Sheffield Wednesday have not had a good campaign this season and are looking short of being able to mount a serious top six charge.

Indeed, they just seem to be lacking the kind of spark you need to get the goals in crucial moments and their inability to really see games through is wearing thin with fans.

Certainly, then, many are calling for Carlos Carvalhal to go but whilst we wait to see what Dejphon Chansiri decides in that regard, the owner has provided a pretty worrying update over George Hirst too.

The young striker is really highly rated but he has not progressed into the senior side with a clear disagreement coming about over his contract.

He hasn't signed a new deal and is free to leave in the summer when it comes around and it looks as though Chansiri is resigned to losing the young star.

Speaking to Owlstalk - via the Yorkshire Evening Post - the owner said of the current situation:

“It seems there is little more we can do to keep George at Sheffield Wednesday.”

Worrying times for Owls fans, then, who must be wondering just whether their chance to get into the Premier League has gone for a few years.

Certainly, there is work to do to get things ship shape once more.

The Verdict

This could be a real blow for Wednesday fans with them all wanting to see Hirst play for the Owls' first-team.

It appears as though he is looking at the exit door, though, and you have to wonder exactly whether or not there is any way back now.
