The Trinidad and Tobago international is one of the higher earners at Cardiff and with owner Vincent Tan making cutbacks this summer, there has been speculation about Jones all summer.

The 6ft 2in striker previously had a loan spell at Wednesday in 2004 and scored 7 times in 7 games and head coach Carlos Carvalhal has earmarked him as the man to fire them to promotion.

Wednesday have recruited well this summer under new ownership but they have failed to sign a proven striker at this level.

Wednesday's ambitious new owners are targeting a long-awaited return to the Premier League and they see Jones as a player who could aid their push, particularly as he achieved promotion with Bournemouth last season.

Cardiff manager Russell Slade will now have to decide whether to cash in on the Trinidad captain - he adds experience but his wages are a huge burden the Bluebirds.
