Sheffield Wednesday find themselves deep in an injury crisis and made the short trip to Oakwell to face Barnsley on Saturday afternoon shorn of 14 first team players.

Having so many injuries is making life difficult for Jos Luhukay and while the Owls are still six points above the dreaded relegation zone, their squad is at breaking point.

That means that stringing results together to push themselves away from trouble is that much more difficult and they are very much still in danger of getting sucked in if they're not capable, especially with the teams below them showing signs of life.

Midfielder Barry Bannan has been absent with a hip injury since December - he last played in the 3-1 defeat against Norwich on 9 December - but the Scotsman took to Twitter to offer fans an update on his injury situation.

The Verdict

It remains to be seen just how long Bannan will be out for but Sheffield Wednesday fans will be hoping for a welcome boost as they are deep in the midst of an injury crisis.
