It's not been a 2020 to remember for Sheffield Wednesday so far, with Garry Monk's struggling for positive performances since the turn of the New Year.

The Owls had previously occupied a spot in the play-off places, but a dismal run of results in 2020 has seen them slide down to 15th in the Championship table.

Garry Monk's men have won just once in their last ten matches, which will certainly make for concerning reading for the club's supporters, who have already voiced their frustrations at these poor recent showings.

Due to recent events, all divisions in the EFL have been temporarily called to a halt, which could prove to be a blessing for Wednesday.

There have been plenty of opinions thrown around as to whether the conclusion of this year's campaign should be played behind closed doors or voided completely.

Speaking in a Q&A session on his official Instagram page, Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan revealed that he is keen to finish the season, and not have it concluded prematurely, but only when safe to do so.

Due to the temporary suspension of the season, Sheffield Wednesday's next league game is set to be on the 2nd May, when they're due to take on relegation-threatened Middlesbrough at Hillsborough.

The Verdict:

I have to agree with Bannan here.

I think I speak for most football fans here in saying that we'd all love to see it return at the earliest of opportunities, and for seasons to be completed. However, the safety and health of everyone should come first, and football shouldn't return until then.

Voiding the season isn't the right way forward in my opinion, as it's completely unfair on teams that are challenging for promotions.

Even though Sheffield Wednesday don't have much to play for this season, it's good to see that Bannan is keen to see the season concluded properly.
