Many eyebrows were raised when Sheffield Wednesday held their own against fierce local rivals, Sheffield United in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Friday night.

One player who played a crucial role in securing a hard-fought point is Joey Pelupessy who played in his first Steel City Derby, and the the midfielder certainly enjoyed the occasion.

Speaking in an interview with Sheffield Wednesday's official website, Pelupessy admitted that he could sense how big the occasion was on Friday evening.

"I really enjoyed the atmosphere and our fans who came to the stadium to give us that level of support was fantastic.

"You could really feel how big the derby is."

The 25-year-old was full of praise for his teammates and was pleased to see his side 'go back to basics' in order to grind out results after a recent slump in form.

"But the thing we did good was fight together, work hard, defend as a team and I think that’s the basic to start to get back to winning ways.

"I think for the feeling it is good, of course you want to win the games but if you don’t win, you must make sure you don’t lose it."

Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping to break out of their poor run of form after the international break when they host Derby County in what will prove to be a tricky game against a Rams side that have the potential to challenge for the Championship title on their day.

The Verdict:

Pelupessy has impressed in his first full season with Sheffield Wednesday and he will be hoping to retain his place in Jos Luhukay's side starting XI going forward this season.

Sheffield Wednesday fans will be the first to admit that they have suffered a huge dip in form in recent weeks and manager Jos Luhukay is rightfully coming under some pressure from the club's supporters.

The Dutchman has formed an impressive partnership with Barry Bannan in the centre of the Owls midfield and fans will be hoping that he can 'kick on' and help fire his side up the table and back into play-off contention.
