Fielding questions on his official Instagram channel, Barry Bannan has revealed the disappointment that he and the squad felt when Steve Bruce left the club last summer.

The Owls have had a difficult-at-times season with a lack of form costing them a realistic shot at the play-offs once the season is resumed - providing it is.

Indeed, there's a case to suggest with a bit more consistency they would have made the top six and, similarly, perhaps if Bruce had been at the club earlier than he was last year they could have made a real run it.

Both are 'what ifs' now, of course, but in the Q&A Bannan has revealed that he and the other players enjoyed working under Bruce before he left for Newcastle United.

He said:

Last summer saw speculation mount around Bruce once Rafael Benitez left Newcastle for China.

The former Wigan Athletic and Hull City boss is a self-confessed Newcastle fan and hails from the area so once the job was linked, it seemed likely he would move - despite settling in well at Hillsborough and doing a good job in the short time he was there in 2018/19.

Players, as Bannan hints at in his answer, are used to it, though, as it is a regular thing in football.
