Sheffield Wednesday are braced for a big summer under manager Steve Bruce as the club look to rebuild following a disappointing campaign overall.

Despite a positive enough end to the season following Bruce taking over the reins at Hillsborough, the objective was to challenge for the top six, something the club ultimately fell short of in the end despite flirting with sixth spot for a few weeks.

Bruce therefore is now looking to act quick, and having released a few players already, he is looking to make moves for new faces it would seem, with Brentford defender Moses Odubajo being linked with a move to the club in the last few days.

The 25-year-old is out of contract with the Bees, but the London club are opting not to renew his deal, leaving the door wide open for the Owls to make their move.

However, there should be an element of treading carefully in relation to Obubajo, a player who has never quite managed to hit the heights many expected of him following his early career promise.

Of course, Odubajo is quality enough Championship player and has worked with Bruce before, but he has had his injuries, and there has to be a worry at the back of Bruce's mind that this could well be the reason the Bees have opted against offering him a new deal.

Injuries are part and parcel of the game and any player who can come back from them obviously has a mental toughness about them that a lot of clubs will value highly. The doubt with Odubajo though will come in the form of if he is indeed over those injuries fully, and if he can become the player he was.

His spell with Hull under Bruce was a successful one, and the Owls manager clearly sees him as someone he can trust and rely on in a squad which needs character and quality adding to it in equal measures.

While his signing might well work out, Wednesday and Bruce would be wise to not rush anything and simply ensure everything is in order before they make a commitment.
