There has been a number of high-profile players in today's game at the very top level who once played in League Two, and even further down.

Of course one name who everyone is thinking about is striker Jamie Vardy of Leicester City, who gained promotion with Fleetwood Town to the Football League not too long ago.

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling once played for Maidstone United, whilst the likes of Grant Holt, Troy Deeney and Rickie Lambert all once played in the bottom two divisions of English professional football.

Sheffield Wednesday aren't doing too well this season compared to their heroics of last year when they just fell at the last hurdle to Hull City at Wembley in the Championship Play-Off Final.

They do only sit 10th in the table, and supporters will surely be disappointed with a number of performances from the campaign so far, and would like to see a quick improvement.

The Owls could take a gamble in January by signing some fresh talent in the lower leagues with hunger and a point to prove.

Here are TWO stars from League Two which Sheffield Wednesday should take a chance on in the winter transfer window...

Conor Chaplin

Conor Chaplin may only be 19- years-old, but the striker isn't shy of getting a goal or two.

He has netted five times for Portsmouth this season so far, and has more than half his shots being on target, not a bad end product for someone of such a young age.

He graduated from the Pompey youth academy in 2014 and has made over 50 appearances for the south-coast club since.

The forward has slowly worked his way into Paul Cook's starting eleven and definitely warrants a move to a big team in January.

Sheffield Wednesday would be the ideal destination for Conor Chaplin as the wealth of experience in the team would help him develop and mature as a footballer.

Ethan Ampadu

Ampadu is one for the future.

The defender, who plays for League Two strugglers Exeter City, is just one of the few promising lights at St. James' Park this season, but he may very well be poached in January.

The 16-year-old made his debut in the EFL Cup First Round against Brentford, becoming the club's youngest ever player, and was even nominated for the man of the match award.

A few days after that game Ethan Ampadu made his full league debut in a loss against Crawley Town at home.

When you have a player like him already making movements then he is sure going to have a bright future.

Sheffield Wednesday's defence could be better it has to be admitted, even if they have one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship (Kieren Westwood).

Exeter City aren't the richest club in the world so it may not take that much to prise him away from the south-west, and if the Owls got Ampadu in January then I am sure they wouldn't regret it.
