Sheffield Wednesday currently sit just outside the play-off places in 7th after their weekend defeat to Derby.

Wednesday - still under manager Carlos Carvalhal - are looking to improve on last season's play-off final defeat to Hull which marked serious improvement from previous campaigns.

The newfound success for Wednesday has been made possible by wealthy Thai owner Dejphon Chansiri who splashed the cash last summer on stars like Fernando Forestieri and Gary Hooper.

The spending was more modest this time around with Adam Reach and Almen Abdi the biggest buys.

Wednesday have had an inconsistent start to the season, enjoying their best run in September when they won 4 of their 5 games.

They did lose twice last month though with defeats to promotions rivals Derby and Brighton and this inconsistency needs to be assessed.

Carvalhal will look to improve the depth in January in preparation for the run in and here are 2 Arsenal players he should consider.

 Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

One of the best young prospects Arsenal have is 19-year-old midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles who primarily plays as a wide midfielder but can play at right back or in central midfield.

This versatility would make him a very useful asset for Wednesday who need more depth in all 3 positions.

Maitland-Niles is prominent for the England under-20 side, has featured twice for Arsenal and made 30 appearances for Championship side Ipswich last season, proving to be there brightest spark in a dismal campaign.

 Yaya Sanogo

The young French striker is highly rated at the Emirates by manager Arsene Wenger, who is keen to get the 23-year-old some first team experience.

He joined in 2013 after impressing for French outfit Auxerre and has since made 20 appearances for Arsenal with his one goal coming in a Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund.

He had dismal loan spells at Crystal Palace and Ajax but scored a hat trick for Charlton against Reading on loan last season.

He would be cover at Wednesday but the talented former French under-21 striker would be a useful asset.
