With seven forwards all wanting to play regularly, it makes sense for Sheffield Wednesday to look to offload at least one to rebalance the squad.
However, they should look to repel any advances made on Fernando Forestieri.
The Italian striker has been at the club for three years since his reported £3.71 million transfer from Watford, but could be targeted in the summer given his talent. Sides looking to add more permanent firepower to their teams would surely like a player of his calibre.
It’s easy to see why he’d be in demand. Despite missing most of the season for a knee operation, Forestieri scored five goals and one assist in ten appearances. With 12 goals last season and 15 the season before, Forestieri has proven to be a fine second striker for Wednesday. Were he to be fully fit for the season and for either Hooper or Fletcher to hit form, Wednesday would be boasting some serious firepower and could realistically expect a return to the play-offs.
If Sheffield Wednesday are looking to offload an attacker, Lucas João or Steven Fletcher are the more forward thinking options. The two have contributed little over the past few seasons beyond depth in the squad. Selling Forestieri would bring in more money in the short term, but he would be much harder to replace.
