Barry Bannan has comfortably been one of Sheffield Wednesday's best and most important players for the past few seasons.

The midfielder has been responsible for some unbelievable strikes and many sublime assists, making him a true favourite at Hillsborough.

He made the move to Wednesday from Crystal Palace back in 2015 on a free transfer and has gone on to become one of the club's most valuable players.

In those 150 appearances, he has scored seven goals and assisted 18, including two goals and four assists during the current campaign.

Wednesday fans will always have a nagging dread in the back of their minds that he might leave but on Friday he dropped a big hint about his immediate future, saying that he hopes to make many more appearances for the club.

For Bannan to all but commit his future to the club will undoubtedly be a big morale boost to the squad after a turbulent season.

But how should the fans feel about it?

This is simply the best possible news that Sheffield Wednesday could receive, if it is, in fact, a committal to the club.

Having talented players such as Adam Reach and Lucas Joao is great, of course, but the fact is that neither of them grab hold of and dictate a game on their own like Bannan does.

He has had a couple of rough patches this season, but his quality remains. Building a team around him should be a priority for Bruce in the summer.
