Sheffield Wednesday will have their transfer embargo lifted, enabling Jos Luhukay to go into the market before the transfer deadline at the end of the month.

The Owls had been unable to bring players in after they were placed under an embargo for breaching FFP regulations following big spending in the past few years.

Obviously, that had seriously impacted Luhukay's transfer plans this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for a top-six place.

Not only did the Yorkshire side fail to bring in any new faces, the likes of Jack Hunt and Jordan Rhodes have departed, whilst Sean Clare didn't sign a new contract at Hillsborough.

However, Sheffield Star journalist Dominic Howson has revealed that the embargo has been lifted after the Owls had satisfied the EFL's requirements.

As well as that, Howson noted how that will allow the club to offer new contracts to a host of key players, who have under 12 months left on their current deals.

Barry Bannan, Lucas Joao and Gary Hooper are three of 11 senior players who are out of contract next summer.

The Verdict

This is great news for Owls fans and the club need to act quickly as new arrivals are needed to help improve Luhukay's squad.

They don't have much time to get players in, but there is quality out there from the Premier League, so deals can be done.

Now, it's about identifying the weaknesses in the squad and ensuring they get the right players in so they can be very competitive up until January, whilst they will also want to tie down their current crop to longer deals if possible.
