Sheffield Wednesday are set to recall Cameron Dawson from his loan spell at Chesterfield due to the clubs injury crisis.

The goalkeeper joined the Spireites earlier in the month with the League Two side suffering problems of their own. The 22-year old played two games, as Jack Lester's men beat Barnet in a crucial clash before losing to Wycombe on Saturday.

However, according to the Derbyshire Times, Dawson will be needed back at Hillsborough due to the injuries that have impacted Carlos Carvalhal's side.

Nine senior players missed the defeat against Wolves on Friday night, including number one keeper Kieran Westwood.

Whilst the extent of the injury to the Ireland international has yet to be revealed, the fact that Dawson is expected to be recalled suggests that he will be out of the hectic festive period.

The Owls, like most EFL sides, will play four games in nine days from Saturday and with Joe Wildsmith in goal, Dawson will be required as backup on the bench.

It will be a big blow for Chesterfield, who are without their only senior goalkeeper Joe Anyon.

The Verdict

This is bad news for Chesterfield, Wednesday and the player. Firstly, it means Westwood is clearly facing a spell out and that's a big blow even though Wildsmith is decent cover.

As well as that, Dawson would prefer to be out playing regular football instead of coming back to the Owls as back up. Of course, it leaves Chesterfield in a worrying position too.

The injury situation has seriously disrupted Wednesday this season and Carvalhal will be hoping key players such as Westwood, Bannan, Forestieri, Lees and Lee can return as soon as possible.
