Sheffield Wednesday are set to make a shock £12 million move for Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes, according to the Daily Star.

Will Rhodes leave Blackburn Rovers?
Rhodes is a transfer target for Sheffield Wednesday

Stuart Gray has pinpointed the striker as the man to fire Wednesday back into the Premier League, and new Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri is willing to open his purse strings in order to sign Rhodes.

However, Premier League side Hull City made a series of bids around the £12 million mark during the summer and saw them rejected, so it may be hard for Wednesday to agree a deal with Rovers considering they're in the same division. There was also interest from QPR and Swansea in January.

The 25-year-old has 65 goals in 131 appearances at Blackburn but only has 13 goals this season, a disappointing total for him considering his goal-scoring escapades in recent seasons.

He first began to catch people's eye at Huddersfield, where his total was 82 goals in 144 appearances.

The Owls' last game came against strugglers Blackpool, where Lewis McGugan's free kick was enough to seal a win.

The win moves the Owls ahead of Blackburn in the league, into 10th place, having amassed 49 points this season.

The news comes after the news yesterday that Derby County were eyeing a loan move for the Scotland international.

Steve McClaren's side have suffered injuries to their two main strikers – Chris Martin and Darren Bent – and are subsequently in need of another forward to finish the season as strongly as possible.
