According to a report by The Daily Mail, Sheffield Wednesday starlet looks certain to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

This news comes after Hirst has struggled to break into the first team this term and he is set to look for a new club in order to get some first team action.

The England youth international was named in the Team of the Tournament at the under-20 Toulon Tournament last summer after netting four goals.

Currently with the England under-19 side, Hirst bagged a hat-trick for them against Poland recently.

The 18-year-old striker also hit forty goals in youth football for Sheffield Wednesday last season but is not being handed first team opportunities at Hillsborough.

Carlos Carvalhal has instead opted to spend big money on strikers such as Sam Winnall and Jordan Rhodes to compete with the likes of Gary Hooper and Fernando Forestieri up top.

The talented teenager will not be short of suitors when his contract expires as Leeds United and Leicester City have previously been rebuffed in their efforts to sign him.

The likes of Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked in the past.

The Verdict

You can't help but feel that Sheffield Wednesday are making a grave error here.

Hirst has clearly proven in the youth sides that he is capable of making the step up and they should follow the examples of other Championship sides, who have successfully blooded in their young stars.

The Owls' loss will be someone else's gain with Hirst tipped to go right to the top of English football.
