Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay has revealed that Fernando Forestieri and Marco Matias are both in contention to play against Sheffield United on Friday night.

The attacking pair have both missed a large chunk of the season but return just in time to be in the running to start in the Steel City derby.

"Fernando Forestieri and Marco Matias have trained this week and maybe we can think of these two players as an option for the team tomorrow," Luhukay told his pre-match press conference.

Forestieri hasn't featured since the victory over Bristol City in early October.

The Italian has not been on his best form this season but has still managed to score three times in the nine appearances he has made.

Matias, on the other hand, has not played since the 2-1 win against Aston Villa at Villa Park, a game in which he scored.

Wednesday as a whole are in a real rut having lost their last four matches and are sinking ever closer to the relegation zone.

A win against their fiercest rivals would no doubt ease the pressure currently mounting on Luhukay.

The Verdict

This is potentially a massive boost for the Owls.

That being said, I am not convinced either should be starting in the derby on Friday night.

With Adam Reach and Barry Bannan both creating plenty in midfield there is not much room for another outlet, but they will be very useful off the bench.
