Sheffield Wednesday have failed with their first attempt to sign Cardiff City’s Sean Morrison this summer, with the Bluebirds rejecting a £3m bid for the defender, according to Sky Sports.

Carlos Carvalhal is looking to significantly strengthen his central defensive options this summer, with Glenn Loovens and Tom Lees the only senior central defenders currently at Hillsborough.

However, Wednesday’s first approach for Morrison’s service has been rejected, with Cardiff not moved by the Owls’ multi-million pound bid.

Morrison, Cardiff’s captain, made 46 appearance across all competitions last season, missing just two league fixtures throughout the 2016/17 campaign, with the defender also scoring four goals.

The 26-year old played a vital role under Neil Warnock, since the 68-year old’s appointment in October, helping the Bluebirds fight relegation and eventually finish in the top-half of the Championship table.

Warnock has agreed to stay at the Cardiff City Stadium for the 2017/18 campaign, and has stated he is aiming to challenge for promotion in the Championship, after a successful first eight months in Wales.

It is unlikely Warnock will want to lose his captain and such an influential cog in Cardiff’s team ahead of a promotion challenge, meaning Wednesday’s failed attempt to sign Morrison, could lead to the Owls pursuing other defensive options in the coming months.
