Sheffield Wednesday have had a bid for Scott Mckenna turned down by Aberdeen, report The Star.

There has been significant interest in the defender in the last few days of the transfer window, with Nottingham Forest reportedly very keen, as well as QPR.

The attention in the 22-year-old prompted him to hand in a transfer request at Pittodrie, which was subsequently rejected, so McKenna could stay despite a late bid by The Owls.

Wednesday's pursuit of the Scot is made more difficult by the fact he still has four years remaining on his contract.

That is because Aberdeen are not in a position where they need to sell, so it will take a significant fee for them to consider his sale, and given the Owls stumbled over a financial disagreement for Michael Hector, they are unlikely to splash out on a defender who is less proven by comparison.

McKenna has made 82 appearances for The Dons since coming through the club's academy system, and it appears he will stay at the club despite his clear desire to move away.

The Verdict

This is bad news for Sheffield Wednesday and it seems that their search for a new central defender will not produce any results.

McKenna would be a great signing for the club, the interest in him from several Championship clubs suggests he is ready for Championship football and given his youth he is only going to improve.

Wednesday are in need of centre-backs and have money to spend after selling Lucas Joao, so they should definitely consider another move for the defender with not long remaining in the transfer window.
