Sheffield Wednesday are confident of striking a deal with Tottenham over a deal to sign Joshua Onomah on a permanent deal according to Football Insider.

Onomah spent last season on loan with the Owls, making 15 appearances for Steve Bruce's side as they finished 12th in the Championship.

But the youngster struggled for consistency for much of his time at Hillsborough, and failed to score in his time with the club, although he was on hand to provide three assists for his team-mates.

It had previously been revealed by Football Insider that Sheffield Wednesday had opened talks with Spurs over making Onomah's loan deal a permanent one heading into next season.

It remains to be seen as to how much a potential deal would be worth to land Onomah's signature, although the report claims that it's set to be a multi-million pound fee.

The 22-year-old has made 32 appearances for Tottenham in total, but evidently isn't in Mauricio Pochettino's plans for the future, as he's been loaned out to both Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa in recent seasons.

It is believed that Onomah is keen to link up with Bruce again as well, which could see the Owls come to an agreement with Spurs sooner rather than later.

The Verdict:

This is a promising update for Sheffield Wednesday as they look to sign the young midfielder.

I don't think we saw Onomah's best in his loan spell at Hillsborough last season, and if he was to sign permanently with the Owls, then he'd have a point to prove, and will feel as though he has unfinished business with Steve Bruce's side.

If he can find some form, then Sheffield Wednesday will be challenging for a top six finish next season in my opinion.
