Sheffield Wednesday have registered their interest in signing Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Wickham has struggled for consistent game time with Roy Hodgson's side for much of this year's campaign, and has had his fair share of injury problems in recent years.

In total, the 26-year-old has made six appearances for the Eagles, with his most recent outing coming in a surprise defeat to Derby County in the FA Cup third round last weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday are likely to be active in the transfer market this month, with Garry Monk revealing that Steven Fletcher is set for a spell in the treatment room which is expected to last for 8-10 weeks.

Fletcher has been key to the Owls' strong start to this year's league campaign, and has 12 goals to his name in all competitions this term.

Sheffield Wednesday are sat eighth in the Championship table, and will be hoping they can make a long-awaited return back into the top-flight under Monk's guidance.

The Owls are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Elland Road to take on Leeds United, in what is certain to be a tricky test for Garry Monk's men.

The Verdict:

This could be a deal that makes sense for both parties involved.

Wickham hasn't had a consistent run in the Crystal Palace side this season, and Sheffield Wednesday are in need of a striker to fire them up to the Premier League.

They need to take a gamble on a striker this month with Steven Fletcher ruled out of action through injury.

Wickham could be that risk, but if he can hit the ground running at Hillsborough, then this could be one of the signings of the season.
