Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Hooper came through an hour of today's development match with Leeds United as he edges closer to a full recovery, reports Dom Howson of the Sheffield Star.

The 30-year-old has been out injured since the December 2017, but looks set to return to the squad within the next few weeks as he continues to regain his fitness.

Despite the injury, he still scored 11 times last season and will no doubt be a big part of the squad when he makes his return.

Hooper made the move to Hillsborough from Norwich City in January 2016, after spending a stint on loan with the club in the first-half of the season.

In total, he has scored 30 goals in almost 100 appearances for the Owls, so it is no wonder fans are so excited about his return.

Lucas Joao has done a decent job in filling the void left by Hooper so far this season, scoring three times in the four Championship matches he has played.

The Verdict

This really has been quite a good start to the season for Sheffield Wednesday when you consider they have done it without their main marksman.

30 goals is a decent record and Hooper will be keen to improve it this season. The goals he scored in the first-half of last season show his class at this level.
