Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood could be available for the Championship clash with Preston North End on Saturday, according to the Sheffield Star.

The 34-year-old suffered a knee injury during the warm-up ahead of the draw against Norwich City on Good Friday and missed win over Bristol City on Easter Monday as a result.

However, the report has revealed that the goalkeeper trained on Thursday, after having a scan earlier this week and could be available for selection for the match at Deepdale.

Westwood has been outstanding for Sheffield Wednesday this season, since his return to side and has played an important role in the Owls' revival under Steve Bruce.

The goalkeeper, who is out of contract at Hillsborough at the end of the season, has made 19 appearances for the Owls in the Championship this season, keep an impressive 11 clean sheets and conceding just 14 goals.

Sheffield Wednesday are currently ninth in the Championship table, four points outside the play-off places, with just two matches to go.

The Owls still have an outside chance of making the top six, but will need to deliver back-to-back wins from their final two matches against Preston and QPR to stand any chance of snatching the final play-off spot.

The Verdict

This is good news for Sheffield Wednesday.

Westwood has been outstanding for the Owls this season and has proved that he is one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship.

The club should do everything they can to get goalkeeper to sign a new contract in the summer and he will provide the team with a big boost if he is fit enough to start against Preston on Saturday.
