Jacob Murphy has completed a move to Sheffield Wednesday, the club has confirmed.

The winger joins on a season-long loan deal from Newcastle, becoming the club's sixth arrival of the summer, and will add some much-needed competition on the wing.

Caretaker manager Lee Bullen had Adam Reach and Kadeem Harris to choose from, with the latter arriving this summer, but other than those two there are no senior wingers in the squad.

Murphy signed for Newcastle upon their promotion to the Premier League in 2017 for a fee believed to be £12m, but after a season in which he played regularly and helped to keep The Magpies up, he fell out of favour under Rafa Benitez.

He joined West Brom on loan last January, scoring two and assisting one in 13 appearances for the club, and has previously impressed for Norwich at this level, making 43 appearances for The Canaries after coming through the youth system.

The Verdict

This is a very good signing by The Owls and Wednesday fans should be very excited for the season ahead now he has signed.

In Murphy and Harris they have pace down the wings, but both players are clever off the ball too and take up very good attacking positions, as the latter evidenced with his goal against Reading on the opening day of the season.

If Murphy can settle and if he has the right mindset he should blossom at Hillsborough, and if he receives the right guidance and backing from his manager then he should be very productive in terms of his goal and assist return.
