Sheffield Wednesday are said to be interested in signing Tranmere Rovers forward James Norwood, according to reports from Rovers Guard.

The 28-year old is currently the League Two top goalscorer having netted 15 goals in 21 league games this season, spearheading Rovers up to 7th in the table.

It is believed, though, that due to his form in front of goal, Norwood has attracted interest from the Owls, who currently sit 17th in the Sky Bet Championship table after a dismal run of form of late.

Jos Luhukay is a man under serious pressure at Hillsborough - Wednesday have lost ground on the playoff places having won just one of their last nine games, and they now find themselves 12 points off the top-six.

Norwood has been a fantastic servant for Tranmere since signing from Forest Green Rovers in 2015 - the 28-year old has scored 77 goals in 150 games for the Wirral club.

It is also believed that National League riches Salford City are also interested in landing the clinical forward, but if a move to the Championship comes along, then surely he'd grab that opportunity with both hands.

The Verdict

There is no doubting Norwood's ability in the lower leagues having been on fire for Tranmere in non-league and League Two, but I think the main question is - can he make the step-up to the Championship?

At 28, he's hardly one for the future, and is in his prime years, but I think there are better options out there for Wednesday.
