Barry Bannan has revealed a meeting between Sheffield Wednesday’s players and Carlos Carvalhal helped to inspire Saturday’s thrashing of Norwich City, reports the Sheffield Telegraph.

Two Jordan Rhodes headers, combined with goals from Ross Wallace, Morgan Fox and Fernando Forestieri, handed the Owls a 5-1 victory over Norwich.

Following back-to-back defeats against Brentford and Leeds United, Wednesday fans had been critical of Carvalhal and his side.

Bannan revealed what his manager said to inspire Saturday’s performance, he told the Sheffield Telegraph: “We had a talk in the week about why at home we’ve not really had the crowd behind us as much as at away games.

“I don’t know what it is, maybe the gaffer’s spotted it and said we need to press and get the crowd on our side from the off and that just shows that if you get the crowd behind you then this can be a tough place to come.”

Saturday’s victory left Wednesday sixth in the Sky Bet Championship table and five-points clear of seventh placed Fulham, but effectively ruled out Norwich of making the top-six, with Alex Neil’s side now nine-points off the pace.

Carvalhal’s side face struggling Burton Albion on Tuesday, where they will be looking to put pressure on Reading and Leeds, who sit directly above them in the Championship table.
