Sheffield Wednesday central defender Osaze Urhoghide has rejected offers from overseas clubs according to the Star, with the 20-year-old set to leave Hillsborough in a few days on the expiry of his contract.

Urhoghide was barely involved in the first half of last season for the Owls, but managed to break through fully at the end of January and has been a regular player for Darren Moore's side ever since.

However, his contract with the South Yorkshire side comes to an end this summer and has rejected a new deal to remain with Wednesday. He will follow the likes of Tom Lees, Joost van Aken and Isaac Rice out of the club, with Julian Borner also likely to depart Hillsborough this summer amid an ongoing contract dispute with the club. This leaves the third-tier side looking a bit light at the back.

For the 20-year-old, he has already received offers for his services, but the Sheffield Star understands he wants to remain in the United Kingdom and Preston are one of the sides monitoring him.

This would be a real coup for Frankie McAvoy's side with Premier League trio Watford, Crystal Palace and Leeds United all said to be previously interested in the defender - and they may also secure the signing of right-back Matthew Olosunde after the Rotherham United man visited Preston's training ground.

The Verdict:

If you're being linked with Premier League clubs at the age of 20, you must be a promising player and Preston will be hoping to get the very best out of Urhoghide if he moves to Deepdale.

Fellow centre-backs Sepp van den Berg and Liam Lindsay have already moved to Lancashire this summer and with the likes of Patrick Bauer, Jordan Storey and Andrew Hughes also available at options in this position, Urhoghide will have a fight on his hands if he wants to start every week.

But with this, manager McAvoy is building a solid backline and this is often the key to promotion and top-six finishes. They may not be anywhere near that yet - but they're a side to keep an eye on throughout the summer as they complete more deals.

Preston fans will be hoping the young, exciting addition of van den Berg are a sign of things to come and Urhoghide could join him very soon, although the Dutchman's recent loan signing may have put an end to their interest in signing the Sheffield Wednesday man.
