Whilst Sheffield Wednesday look to be safe from relegation, they do need to think about strengthening if they're going to achieve anything other than mid table mediocrity again next season.

Currently, George Boyd is playing left wing back for them.

He's a seasoned performer at this level, but I'm not sure his defensive qualities are entirely in keeping with Wednesday's needs.

Besides, at 32-years old he's not getting any younger and they'll almost certainly look to draft someone in on the left side in the summer.

They could do much worse than Peterborough's Marcus Maddison, a fine player with 134 outings for Posh under his belt.

He can play anywhere down the left side, usually as an attacking midfielder but occasionally at left back and even as an advanced winger.

He's versatile, something that would fit with the 5-3-2 that Wednesday have been playing recently. He could certainly offer the attacking threat going down the flank.

The 24-year old started at Newcastle but drifted down the pyramid until he ended up at Gateshead. It was there he really made his name, with then-manager Gary Mills telling the BBC in 2014: "He has an unbelievable talent, he wants to score goals and can score goals, with a magical left foot. On the other side, he works hard. Marcus was a selfish lad when I first came to the football club and now he's a match-winner and team player."

He has 16 assists so far in League One for Posh, with a further six coming in other competitions, compared with one assist in 14 outings for Boyd. Often, it is a '20-goal' striker that fans crave, but few think to covet a '20-goal' creator, arguably just as important. Could Maddison be the man to supply misfiring Jordan Rhodes a few extra chances? After all, Rhodes will start scoring soon, whether it is at Hillsborough or after a summer move.

He wouldn't come cheap though, Peterborough harbour their own promotion ambitions, if not this season then next, and he recently signed a new three-year deal at London Road. However, he's definitely got the potential to step up and Sheffield Wednesday are a big club, irrespective of their current league position.
